WELCOME TO
Portugal

Stunning cliffs and beaches, the biggest waves in the world, port villages filled to the brim with restaurants, Portuguese men spending their afternoons people watching with the seagulls, and great food. Sounds like a dream right? Except when you forgot to check the weather and theres a hurricane heading for the coast the day you’re supposed to arrive. So what do the Hathaway’s do when rain get’s in the way? Well of course make a last minute change and head over to Spain instead (check out the first 5 days of #vanlife in Spain here). With the rain following our tracks, our original plan of 10 days in Portugal was quickly shrunk down to 5, so we decided to stick to 2 cities: Nazare, which has been on our bucket list for years and Porto (because of course we needed to try Port in Porto).

After driving through Spain in the van, we quickly realized van life was NOT for us so after a night in Nazare and a pit stop before Porto, we dropped the van off early, checked into a hostel and airbnb, and spent 3 amazing days in the highly underrated city of Porto!

The Stories

How We Did It

TBD: How we did Porto

TBD: How we did the coast

During our stay, we were able to experience a plethora of activities, food, accommodation, drives, excursions, (some touristy stuff), and met a number of people along the way that helped make our experiences - wonderful.  Here are some guides that give insight into our trip, but also offer some ideas around where to stay, what to do, where to eat and in many cases some contacts to folks we know will enhance your adventure
